All you need to do is read the whole content and follow along with me.

Airtel one of the best telecom operators in India releases airtel 4G hotspot. If you are an Airtel 4G hotspot user then this article may come handy for you. In this article, I will tell you how to change airtel 4g hotspot wifi username and password.

First thing first…

How do you connect or use the airtel 4G hotspot device for the first time? To do that…

Firstly, you need to open up the back panel of the device and take out the battery from it and insert an Airtel 4G sim recharged with valid 4G plans.

  • I just purchased the Airtel 4G Wi-Fi hotspot device. I am tryingo to setup the 4G internet using the hotspot device. I am able to see the web management console but when I try to make any changes, it is asking for a user name and password. I don't remember getting any user name or password when I got the hotspot device.

When you take out the battery, you will notice some parameters written on the label.

You can see these on the image below.

Under WiFi key field, the password of the hotspot device is written. Now, I want you to write down that password.

Turn on the hotspot device by long pressing the key in the middle and also turn on the WiFi of your Laptop/PC/Mobile device and connect to the wifi network using the password written on the back of the hotspot device.

You can configure the airtel 4G hotspot WiFi device from your mobile device too, but if you’ve got a PC or laptop nearby, it is a lot easier to configure from there.

Once you are connected to the WiFi network of the hotspot, the very first thing you want to do is login straight to your Airtel 4G hotspot and change that ugly looking ever-ending defaultWiFi password.

You don’t want to remember that long complicated password each time you need to connect a new device to the 4G hotspot. Do You?

Type 192.168.1.1 on the address bar of the browser installed on your Laptop/PC/Mobile and press Enter. 192.168.1.1 is the default login IP address of the Airtel 4G hotspot.

Manual

Now a screen will appear in front of your display. That is the router configuration page of your tiny Airtel 4g hotspot device.

Now as you try to click on any of the navigation menu (Statistics, SMS, USSD etc.) you will be prompted to put a username and password.

Here, you need to put as admin on both the username and password field. Because admin is the default login username and password of the Airtel 4G hotspot device.

Once you are logged in, you will be able to do a various operation like changing wifi password, changing SSID(name of the WiFi access point), block wifi users from your network and many more.

I believe, by now you are successfully logged in to the hotspot.

Now click on the settings → WLAN → WLAN Basic Settings.

A screen appears with SSID(network name), security mode and WPA pre-shared key(wifi password).

The default SSID i.e name of your hotspot network Airtel-E5573 is too boring. Who wants to remember that? change it right away to a cool and catchy SSID.

Don’t Hit Apply yet…we are not finished.

Next thing you want to do is select security mode. By default, the security mode is selected as WPA2-PSK. If it is not, then select WPA2-PSK as security mode, as it is the most secure wifi encryption technology used in your Airtel 4G hotspot.

It’s time now to change WiFi password of Airtel 4G hotspot device because that default password you used to connect your device for the first time is ugly and definitely not easy to remember

The password of your hotspot device is written under WPA Pre-share key. WPA Pre-shared key simply means password of your WiFi. Delete whatever written under it and give a new password to your WiFi. To make it stronger use an uppercase letter along with a special character and numerics.

Now Click on Apply.

As soon as you click on apply, all your devices connected to the hotspot would get disconnected as you’ve changed the name of the WiFi network and password.

Now reconnect the device with newly changed WiFi password and you are ready to go.

Remember when we used admin as default username and password to login to the hotspot device at the beginning?

Let me tell this, it is not a good practice to leave that password as admin. If you do that, you are letting the hotspot device to a DDOS attack.

So, let’s change this now.

The screenshot attached above is self-explanatory on how to change default login password i.e admin of your Airtel 4G hotspot.

I am going to explain this in words anyway.

Click on settings → System → Modify password.

Here you need to put admin as Current password.

You need to give a strong New password which is well described on that page.

Confirm the password and click on Apply and don’t forget to note that new password somewhere. Because we don’t login to the hotspot every day and chances are that you will forget that soon.

That’s it. You have successfully configured your Airtel 4G hotspot device now. But…

Hang on… there are some bonus tips for bpedia reader, if you have enough time then you can read my two bonus tips.

I promise you, this will not be your waste of time at all.

Bonus Tips:

  • You might not know that you can block unwanted wifi users on your Airtel 4G hotspot device. This feature comes handy when your friends or guests are connected to your WiFI network and they are eating up all the bandwidth. As we all know that, Airtel and other ISP have a daily data limit and once your data usage crosses that daily limit, I don’t need to tell you how irritating it becomes to surf the internet with that terrible low speed.

So how to block unwanted wifi users connected to your Airtel 4G hotspot?

The process is really simple, but you have to know who is connected to your wifi either by knowing their assigned IP address or MAC address.

Once you know which device to block. Click on Statistics.

A screen appears with all the connected device and its IP address and MAC address. Here you need to know which device to block and for that, you want to know their IP address or MAC address.

Once you figure out which device to block, click on the Block written against that particular device.

  • If you stay in an overly crowded WiFi zone-meaning if there are too many wifi networks around you then chances are high that your WiFi will receive interference from other WiFi networks.

Question is how do you know if you are staying in an overly crowded WiFi zone. This trick is really simple. Just turn on the WiFi on your mobile and see how many access points are there. If there are more then 5-6 access points then you are staying in the crowded zone.

So what’s the solution?

The operating frequency of Airtel 4G hotspot device is 2.4GHz which is more prone to interference due to its overlapping channel. Unlike the 5ghz band, it does not have non-overlapping channels. To get rid of this problem, you can do one simple thing.

Airtel 4g Hotspot Wd670 Manual

Go to Settings → WLAN → WLAN Advanced setting.

A screen will appear as shown above.

Hotspot

By default, the channel is set to Auto. But if you stay in a wifi crowded zone then you might want to change that auto setting to either channel 6 or channel 11.

Why 6 or 11?

Because there are 11 channels starting from 1 to 11 in a 2.4 GHz WiFi band. Out of these 11 channels, only channel number 1, 6 and 11 are non-overlapping.

If you choose a non-overlapping channel then you are reducing the chance of interference caused by other devices.
